Sake exports are increasing year after year
JAPAN SAKE AND SHOCHU MAKERS ASSOCIATION announced that the value of exports in 2022 will be higher than the previous year for the 13th consecutive year,
and the volume is also at a record high.
China ranks first in export value, followed by the U.S. in second place and Hong Kong in third.
Exports are at record highs in most countries.
Also, for the first time, the Port of Yokohama topped the ranking of Japan’s ports in use.
Why is sake so popular overseas?
There are various reasons for this, such as the calm in the spread of the new coronavirus and the depreciation of the yen.
The biggest factor, however, is probably the Japanese food boom.
This makes sense, since alcoholic beverages are meant to be enjoyed with food.
Furthermore, Japanese sake breweries are producing sake that will be accepted overseas,
and there is a growing awareness of the need to export even domestically.
High growth rate in Southeast Asia
The sake market in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, is also expanding rapidly, with growth of about 200% year over year in these 3 countries.
Southeast Asia, which also has a large inbound market, is expected to grow in the future.
